About Me
My photography work is focused on a variety of portraiture, studio, and clandestine compositions. I am Interested in exploring portraiture through a variety of approaches, including documentary and studio, using both direct and indirect focus on my subject. Portraiture is a way to document everyday life. Having portraiture is a way to have documentation and authentic views of who we are in our society, culture, and community. In Behind the Plating, I documented labor and food preparations with a journalist’s approach to embed the viewer of the kitchen. We aren’t able to see the action and hard work that takes place when visiting our favorite restaurants. I extended my portraiture photography further into studio work and produced Childhood Memories. I focused on objects as stand-ins, referencing the body/identity. These objects come from specific memories from childhood and create a form of self-portraiture. In my commercial studio work, I start a conversation with my subjects to understand who they are as people, bringing out their personalities within images. I believe in finding an authentic view of the people I photograph and making images that last.
